FKG Group was engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) for the resurfacing of the Warrego Highway through the Miles township and the re-construction of two major intersections that join the Leichhardt Highway with the Warrego Highway.

Struber was engaged to develop and implement the Project’s Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Strategy.

STR
strategy

Take a community-centric view by embedding stakeholder specialist on the project from the critical start-up planning phase through to delivery to:

• understand the Project
• identify key stakeholders needs and concerns
• identify and mitigate potential risks to the community and the Project
• maintain the Project and TMR’s brand reputation
• develop an innovative and engaging Strategy that targeted the right people at the right time in a way that’s relevant to them.

STR
tactics

Developed a comprehensive stakeholder database, including key stakeholders and directly and indirectly impacted businesses and residents, and community groups.

Stakeholders were prioritised into categories and by their degree of impact and importance to determine who needed to be engaged through:

• public information session
• written correspondence
• doorknocking/face-to-face meetings to negotiate/trouble-shoot impacts during construction
• sponsorship/community events.

Careful consideration was given to minimising road closures and interruption to normal business routines within the town.

STR
results

Due to early engagement with the community, property access was maintained for the town’s businesses, residents and emergency services. The project was able to support the local community through both event sponsorships and engagement with local suppliers and subcontractors.
