The Pacific Motorway (M1) is one of Queensland’s busiest roads that connects Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with more than 150,000 motorists every day.

Jacobs engaged Struber to deliver the community and stakeholder engagement during the preliminary and detailed design phase for the 2.5km northbound stretch and the 1km southbound stretch between Watland Street and Sports Drive (WS2SD). This includes off-ramp improvements, intersection upgrades and the South-East Busway extension adjacent the M1.

STR
strategy

TMR had managed property resumptions along the corridor, and Struber’s focus was to support and continue to build on these relationships by supporting the one-on-one, in person engagement focus with directly affected businesses and properties.

This approach aimed to facilitate site investigations to inform the design, and also understand business and service operations to finalise the detailed design for property accommodation works, particularly for businesses facing upgraded intersections and the new Lexington Road on-ramp.

STR
tactics

Struber:
• Undertook extensive stakeholder identification and mapping to understand affected businesses, residents, community groups and services, local government, elected representatives, services, motorists, commuters and cycling groups

• Met with directly affected businesses and shopping centres to review property accommodation designs, access requirements, revised property boundaries, and access for site investigations

• Developed Communication and Engagement plan and supporting collateral including key messages, frequently asked questions, website copy, and notifications

• Developed and managed wide-spread notifications for site and survey investigation works

• Coordinated overarching M1 public information displays including reviewing venues, liaising with suppliers and event logistics

STR
results

• Almost 70% of all stakeholder interactions were proactive

• Coordinated public display requirements within a two-week period

• Facilitated timely notifications so site and survey investigations could be progressed
